*ex*tinc*tion* (noun) 1 : the act of making extinct or causing to be extinguished 2 : the condition or fact of being extinct or extinguished; also : the process of becoming extinct <~ of a species> 3 : the process of eliminating or reducing a conditioned response by not reinforcing it *en*dan*ger -dan*gered; -dan*ger*ing* : to bring into danger or peril : to create a dangerous situation ------------------------ Words on a page of a dictionary ... in this case simply fail to define ... they lack the true impact of Mankind's cost and toll on nature's design. What part of extinction don't we understand...once their gone...their gone, the numbers of loss is staggering ... so many species have becomes man's pawn. We are wiping entire species off the face of the land ... and it will continue on, till we too are endangered ... if no one takes a stand. Every creature and species play a valuable role and part ... they are the Earths ecosystem ... they are the Earths heart. Each of them are important ... no matter how large or small ... the mightiest mammal, the tiniest organism ... all have taken the fall. How can we be so blind ... so greedy or so cruel, we think we are so wise ... but in the end we are the fool. For all the images of bloodied dead baby seals ... I hang my head in shame, How can you look them in the eye and still kill ... is it greed or need that is to blame. Dead is dead...and there eventually will be no more, look into the eye of the tiger ... Cant you see the damage in store. The list grows ever longer...and if we don't stop... add MAN to the bottom line, you wont need a dictionary to tell you ... our own demise will define. Janet Marie ----------------------- Currently, there are over 24,000 species that are endangered or threatened by human activities. Unless we do something quickly, they will disappear forever. Without them, Earth's ecosystem may very well crumble. By endangering wildlife, we are endangering ourselves. Up to 100 species become extinct every day. Scientists estimate that the total number of species lost each year may climb to 40,000 by the year 2000, a rate far exceeding any in the last 65 million years. Extinction is Forever ... Endangered means there's still time! -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [This message has been edited by Janet Marie (edited 04-20-2000).] |

Janet, you are a Doll, for putting this one together. I loved it all, so where'd you get these stats, its great. I know that the worlds eco system is so fragile, too much off balance and the whole thing collapses. Its very basic, human race wants to make money... human race clears land and destroy's species Species die and create broken links in the food chain... Other species that depend on those species die without a food source Food chain breaks some more...... micro organisms die also without their specialize food source... Food that humans need, of plant or animal need these specialize micro organisms... They then die........... Once enough links in this chain break, the whole chain starves in order. Then the Top of the Food chain dies... and that my friends is Man. Our science contrary to popular belief is not capable of sustaining us if all the plants in the world wont grow without its micro systems in place. All the money in the world wont feed us then. We'll just be gone. Mother Nature on the other hand will come back after a time and start over. We may never be that lucky again. We were given this intelligence to be smart, I wonder when we are going to learn how to use it. Janet you on the other hand used it well here. ![]() Parker |

-Janet And yet you manage to floor me once again!!! This was simply awesome in form, presentation, wording, everything!! I loved the pictures, the definition thing really made this unique. Last but not least your words...each one flowing into the next telling the horrible story of what possibly could be the beginning of the end. Kudos to you, I just wish more people were in the world such as yourself. Love ya, AMY ![]() ~Live today as though it were your last but prepare for tomorrow as though it were here~ |

Outstanding, JM! Everyone needs to keep the focus on this issue, our government officials in particular need to know the importance of the environment. The best way to do this is to write your representatives, let them know this matters! Thanks again, lovely pictures, too. Corinne |

BTTT FOR EARTHDAY AND PARKER Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders And it makes me want to touch you there. And the light in your eyes makes me feel Like there's something much better out there Something kind... And I know someday I might be looking around Trying to find some purpose Well purpose it can't be that hard to find As long as I've got the wind... The wind and your love to carry me. vertical horizon |
