~It's Just Sad~

The birds are chirping gaily
church bells are merrily tolling
bride's walking down the aisle
her husband at shoulder

She's laughing at a joke her friend told her 2 days before
pouring wine into a crystal goblet
cutting the cake with her husband
dancing round and round, spinning here head off

A wedding day's one of the most important days to us
It's always happy and full of joy
Every one of your relatives is there
and you have your husband

But what can happen when it's all over
is the worst part of life
cause when this new couple walked to their limo in the rain
they got a phone call.

On the other end was a doctor
he asked the bride,
"Are you Anne McCory?"
"Yes, of course I am. What's wrong? Why are you calling me?"

"We've got some bad news about your mother."
the doctor replied.
"What?" the bride whispered,
her hand trembling.

"On her way home she got in an accident.
Crashed into a flagpole on the sid eof the road."
"O my God, is she ok?"
"Well, I think she's having her last few breaths. If you come over here in time, you might be able to see for the last time."

So the driver took them on a really fast ride
to East Montgomery Hospital
But when they got there,
it was too late. The bride's mother was gone.

"O my God, o my God. This can't be happening to me."
She cried into her husband's shoulder,
she just couldn't watch the body go by.
So they left the hospital not knowing they would have to go right back.

On the way home, the limo had some problems.
It crashed into 2 cars, each on one side.
The front was smashed into a lightpole, the sides crumpled and shredded.
The ambulance came as fast as it could,
but all who survived was the driver.

"O my God, o my God." he said as he watched the bloddy bodies being
rolled by. He looked at his limo,
being hauled away,
and just broke down and cried.

Well, isn't it just so sad?
The newly wed couple's day
turned out so bad.
Next time you read this, remember how lucky you were to live.

While I am hoping that this is only a poem, and not based on a true event I getting the feeling that this tragedy did happen. I like to believe that things happen for a reason but such a philosophy is redundant in the face of such events. I am sorry if you knew the people in the accident. Sometimes life deals us a harsh hand. Thank you for the reminder of how fragile life is.

a powerful poem.

"Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time".
