Lovers embrace in the shadows under the arched avenue of stripped trees. Bodies shield their partners barely in view against the head lights of passing traffic. However not as noble protectors, rather with the selfish hold of ownership. These are not the children of romanticism sharing a love so intense as to defy death, they are the parasites feeding greedily on warm flesh, never aware as sweethearts. Through the shadows they waltz leading their partners as discardable sluts. Their thoughts never touched the virtues of the heart, kisses cold and empty, their love breathes only as a commodity. Fading from view, as they journey into the dark crevasses of territory conquered by countless previous pillages. In the morning light they shall disband in to momentary isolation only to haunt the night again in search of casual fun and incidental lovers, while I race my way home into the arms of solitude, to chase away the sorrow dreaming of the experiences they have so cheaply spent. ------------------------ "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? " Douglas Adams. Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky "You have your very own number They dress your cage in its nature Once you roared now you just grunt lame Pace around pathetic pound games Wanna get out won't miss you sensaround To carry your own dead to swing your tyre tricks Wanna get out here you're bred dead quick For the outside, The small black flowers that grow in the sky They drag sticks along your walls Harvest your ovaries dead mothers crawl Here comes warden, Christ, temple, elder Environment not yours you see through it all Wanna get out won't miss you sensaround To carry your own dead to swing your tyre tricks Wanna get out here you're bred dead quick For the outside, The small black flowers that grow in the sky Here chewing your tail is joy" Richey Edwards |

This poem touched me deeply. Sometimes people write poetry that is special to them and it ends up touching everyone else maybe differently. Thank you for posting this poem. It truly was touching. |

~Brian,...I am amazed at your observations and your talent at writing about them. You my friend are a wise and kind heart. This post is thought provoking and touching right down to the part where~ I race my way home into the arms of solitude,to chase away the sorrow dreaming of the experiences they have so cheaply spent. Well done. *Peace. |

wisdom, for sure. nicely penned, brian. the more I read, the more I felt that the title, Incidental Lovers, is one of those oxymorons. Ya know? Like cruel kindness or cold fusion. |

Great poem Brian! how easy it is to relate with and see the underlining truths we all seek not to notice... Very thought provoking! Cyndey |

Now, Brian, how did this one get away from me! Great observation of life, Brian. The emptied shadows of lust, or in some cases of one that is so sure the other is their true love and is only there for a space of time and entertainment. Very well written. I enjoyed reading this. Excellent lessons in life to be learned in this. ~netswan |

This is excellent writing, Brian. You created a very vivid portrayal here of another side of actions and emotion. |
