Sentry of the Heart Stand down sentry of the heart your watch has ended. You listen for permission from the descendants of time. Long dead they leave their obituary of condemnation, a fingerprint that no one sees but you. The soft fingers that beguiled the child still build blockades to keep passion in. The bad hand has been gone nigh forty years and scars are not a sacred treasure. Who do you keep them for but yourself to stoke the sadness you admit only when twilight has stripped you and night has folded you in. Stand down sentry of the heart your watch has ended your vigilance has mocked the perfection of this minute. Stand down or light the way. |

Who do you keep them for but yourself to stoke the sadness you admit only when twilight has stripped you -------------- Martie, this poem touches me deeply... your have written the emotions out so tenderly...yes we do put up walls and defenses... thank god for our writing..to help us heal. I was looking at all these posts...and the volume of them show...many of us write because it is healing release...sharing it with each other heals us as well. take care, jm Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders And it makes me want to touch you there. And the light in your eyes makes me feel Like there's something much better out there Something kind... And I know someday I might be looking around Trying to find some purpose Well purpose it can't be that hard to find As long as I've got the wind...
