Out of Body - Out of Mind?

Please tell me ... could it be that I
   Am not alone in this?
For times I fear I'll lose my mind,
   Or what is left of it!

So much goes on about me,
   Through my daily life it seems;
But every once so often, fear
   I've wakened from a dream.

It happens when I least expect,
   And chills me to the core ...
For it could happen anywhere,
   Just like it did before.

I'm minding my own business when
   A flash of clarity,
Comes crashing all about me,
   Like a giant movie screen.

No longer I'm the actor
   Or participant in "life" ...
I seem to see the players
   From a'far, in different light.

I feel I'm floating on a plane,
   And looking back at them,
As actors merely read their lines,
   And play their parts, but then ...

It's in these times, my senses sour,
   For everything is clear;
The sounds, the smells, the visions
   Are so bright and strong when here.

I feel I'm looking past
   The very essence of my life;
Into a world of make-believe ...
   It cuts me like a knife.

In these enlightening moments,
   I do feel so out of place;
And watch all those around me
   As they play "The Human Race".

But if "they" are the actors,
   And "their" world is fantasy,
Then only in these moments,
   Am "I" in "reality" ?!?

Sometimes the best poems come when we are a bit bizarre...lol

Yep, I've had those moments of vivid clarity at times. They can be a bit frightening. You've captured it perfectly!

~Kelly:  So true (lol) ...

~Denise:  Glad I'm not alone Denise ... "vivid" clarity is a good phrase for this (reminds me a little of "WhoVille" ... )

Kit,
Thank you so much for expressing this feeling.  Sometimes when I'm in a crowded room or even when I'm alone, it's as if the camara moves back and I am soaring - looking at everything from afar.  It is a wierd, startling feeling.  We are but a grain of sand.  That's what this reminded me of.

Maybe it's at the heart of a poet.

I absolutely loved it.

~Lori:  Maybe so ... it's such a strange clarity and I don't think I quite did it justice here, but I'm glad you know what I mean ... thanks for saying so Lori!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Kit~
You depicted a moment many of us have felt.
The curtain falls on all of us caught in the 'play of life' beyond our own reality.
Encore !
