I tell myself it’s no big deal
That I don’t hear from you
But hurt is what I really feel
And don’t know what to do.

My offering, so simply wrought,
By you is cast behind;
With sore rejection I have fought
Its ravages unkind.

Without a thought of selfish gain
Your friend I tried to be
And only hoped that I’d obtain
Some common courtesy.

I hear your message loud and clear
-I’m just not worth your time;
So now I shed another tear
For lack of sharing’s rhyme.

Your doorstep I will darken not
Again with pleasantries;
Sheer ignorance at last has shot
Down friendship fantasies.

Perhaps one day you’ll need a song
To fill the void left where
The sweetest music once played strong
-Back when you didn’t care.

I wish you well upon that day
When silence comes your way.

Denise

When a friend turns their back on you, you can be extremely painful. sometimes we misjudge people and fail to see that they are not being truthful about themselves. We are often better off without these people.
You speak hard truth, I hope that you were not hurt too badly. Great poem.

Denise, there is much power in this verse...although loss of friendship is always a sad thing, you've told of it with such magnificent grace

Denise you have made me think of a friend that I just recently lost...she was an angel and she chose not to be mine...a bittersweet lesson...I am hurt because she chose not to be my friend but I love her for the time she gave to me.  If I look at it from my perspective I can understand...if the feelings are not in someones heart how can they be given or shared.    James

Denise, What a fabulous job you did writing this and I could feel your pain very strongly. Sometimes people are blind to see what sits right before their eyes. Here's a smile from me cause I know your a special person.

Denise ~ Beautifully written as always!  It's hurtful when you put so much into a friendship only to be taken for granted.  I can relate to this very well... you described it to a "T"

Thank you for reading and for your kind commments, Kelly! Yes, it is very painful, isn't it? Everything in life that is thrown our way can either defeat us or make us stronger. I'm getting pretty strong!!

No one who knows the wonderful person you are inside could ever ignore you....and anyone who doesn't recognize that doesn't know you at all.....

Sad poem, but very true. Friendships sometimes take those kind of turns. I've never purposely turned my back on any friends, but have lost touch. I wonder if that is not the same thing sometimes.  What is also tragic is when you try to be friens with a new friend, and they don't receive it well...especially when you've done nothing wrong to make them stay away.

 Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau"

Dear Denise, Such a beautiful poem about such a hurtful experience.  I could use this right now with a "friend" of mine.  "I hear your message loud and clear - I'm just not worth your time"....Ouch.  You have such a sweet heart, I can't imagine anyone not being thankful for your friendship.  Bonnie
