The Mother's Day Gift A cigar box, painted black with yellow and pink roses, and green leaves in childish scrawl a place for all of your treasures; made with only you in mind, made with my hands, made with my love, to sit on your windowsill in the shadows of the peace roses. I thought you would ooh and ahh, but once placed in your hands, it did not match the gift of love I had held for you in my mind. Years and years went by ~ I know there were other gifts given on this special day to honor you, but I don't remember them. Practical gifts, but nothing from the heart, like the cigar box. Eight years ago, Mom we both knew it was probably your last Mother's Day here; we were right. I only wish I knew, Mom, where that old cigar box was, for all of my love for you is in it, and I would treasure it with all my heart. Eight years ago I told you I loved you… I know my voice held the words differently because we both knew it would be the last time I could say to you those three words, and I wanted you to hear them with your heart. ~~~~~ I miss you. Happy Mother's Day. ©KRJ 7 May, 2000 Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Oh, Karilea~ How beautiful is this render. So tenderly recalled from your heart. Those mementos of love that rest in the cedar chest of this mom ... are awakened with renewal each and every Mother's Day. *Hugs* from my heart to yours, sweet friend. My mother is no longer here in body, but oh, how her spirit rests within me. This touches me more than you can know. Thank you. Love ya' ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

--Sunshine Having lost my Mom six years ago...I felt this poem with every being of my core! I am at a loss of words right now...so you'll have to excuse me as I try to fumble through a reply to this post. This was such a beautiful touching tribute to your Mom...both the gift and the poem. I know this must have been very difficult for you to put into writing. I want you to know I think you did a wonderful job. I have a hard time writing about the feelings of my Mom too. I really hope you find that cigar box and that you continue upon your journey of healing. Here's a thought...maybe our Moms are up in heaven together and are friends. That at least makes me smile. Take care and best of luck! Amy ~Live today as though it were your last but prepare for tomorrow as though it were here~ |
