Liquid Happiness You drink your happiness out of a glass, As the sun sinks into the west. The bottle, half empty, sits close at hand - By midnight, you'll drink the rest. Your life is a whirlwind, that 'round you blows, And freezes your blood to ice (Three cubes of which now cool your drink: Your liquid paradise.) It isn't that you're worse off than most - You're a common, average man. But, sometimes, life still screams for more, When you're doing all you can. So tonight, for awhile, you'll forget your woes, And sweep them under the rug. You'll quench your spirit's thirst, As you imbibe this legal drug. When Monday morning rolls around, Your troubles you will face. And take your place, among the ranks Of runners in life's race. But, for tonight, you've found a way To minimize your pain. So, o'er the kingdom of liquid joy, This evening, you will reign. © Troy J Hoecherl All Rights Reserved Beautiful, Thought-Provoking Poetry http://www.h-systems.net/p1.htm |

Troy, If you only knew how close to home this touches. I have been there and back (sober for almost six years now) I know the true meaning of this piece far too well. Thank you for sharing it. I love you man...lol All my love, Jeffrey I lie awake in a world filled with dreams, but dreams can be so real when you don't know you're asleep |

Troy, Very touching poem. I know someone that I care for very, very much who suffers the same problem of trying to lose himself inside the liquid happiness. I felt the power of this one deeply. Thank you for sharing it. ~you reached inside, you touched my heart, and I am all the better for it~ Terry A. Woodson, Jr. |

Troy this is great! Love this poem. It is sad that some cannot be able to drink for a night of fun, or for getting away from reality without it being a life problem. I don't understand why some have to not be able to stop --and when I have a friend that has a drinking problem, I will stand by their side and not drink while they are here. But sometimes, I, too like to nip for a buzz or a little relaxation and am one of the fortunate ones that can do it, too. hugs from netswan (your sister poet) who enjoys you and knows you do not have a drinkin' problem -----) |

Well, I'm certainly happy to hear from netswan that you don't have this problem - Far too many wonderful people do.... It's quite insidious, to say the least... You've done a very good job portraying it, however... Nicely done, Troy.... |

I believe this is the first poem of yours that I have read. I like how you put this to words. Sad when this happens in real life--that "rat race" can be overwhelming. Good work. Z |

Not only is this well written, but you write about a tough subject with much sensitivity and without any apparent judgment. Very well done. Sue |

Troy, What a fabulous job you've done on this poem. I can relate to what it says I know many with this problem and it is very sad and frustrating. They don't see it like your poem states, they don't see it at all. |

Excellent writing, Troy! So many people I know have this problem. It is a shame, for they are wonderful people who are drinking most of their lives away. You have described it very well. Denise |
