SOME ANGELS Some angels never learn to fly, They just look to the sky and sigh... In wonder of those duly blessed Who weren't given their wings in jest. Some angels never sing on key, Just whisper along silently. In peaceful awe of a refrain That never is theirs to ordain. Some angels never see their worth Question reasons of pointless birth. When all that they've tried to protect If but by nature falls suspect. Some angels never learn to dance, Then, some never are given chance... For even in the heavens bright Comes a shadow from ev'ry light. And in these very shadows dwell The enmities of private hell. Forsaken by the eyes of All, Those nameless few, though fair, who fall. By frailest wings, by shattered verse. By ev'ry blessing donned a curse. By ev'ry rendered graceless thought Or gloriole that served them not. The wiles of the misunderstood, Purchase no place amongst the "good". Wherein no deed by earth or air Exonerates those who weep there... Whose eyes must yet perceive the light Or merely dream of wistful flight. Who ask the sky, with a sigh, why Some angels have to fall to fly... Now I know what you did last night...you flew in the dark. Glad I could be of some inspiration, no? I won't grumble, since you spun such a sad but lovely tale from it. Nice job. - pFF "Laugh and the world laughs with you..." cry, and you're all alone. My version - pFF |

Michael this was as if written from another time...like a sonnet from long long ago. It had a beautiful rhythmical quality to it, not to metion the words and writing were superb. Awesome job my friend, you have truly outdone yourself this time. ~X~ "Our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." --William Shakespeare |

It is getting harder and harder to reply to your work--everything has been said so many times---but know that you have touched me again with this one---(and yes, 'tis true, I was already a bit touched--smiling as I soft-shoe my way out again...) |

For even in the heavens bright Comes a shadow from ev'ry light. Love that line. I suppose some angels were never meant to fly but feel and in doing so soar higher than the rest. Beautiful piece Michael. |

I dont know the exact meaning of this poem, but it was wonderful to read. The darkness present is so sad and moving, I am not quite sure how to explain, seeing as I dont fully understand the poem. Great work here Michael |

Michael, this is one of the most moving poems I have read in awhile...Every rhyme and beat is perfect, the content bittersweet. I especially love the final stanza, it says it all. I believe there are angels among us, and many who fit into your poem...wonderful work, my friend ![]() |

Micheal, I must compliment you on such a brilliantly crafted piece. No one could have written this better. You are one of the few poets that I make a point of reading all your work. In fact, every time I come into passions I check to see if you have posted anything new. Your work always moves me profoundly. Keep 'em coming m'friend. Walt, you are an angel by your own right my friend. And you've still written heaven related poem Ive ever read - "Heaven's touch". Sy, Indeed... Gen, You wouldn't be calling me "fly by night" would you? ![]() X-Angel, me thinks I am from "another time" if you will. I did have a feeling of nostalgia in writing this though... a sense of longing I suppose. Janet, Angels can be quite the inspiration, can't they. They are perfect representations of all that is good and yet, even with all their perceived perfection, some would choose to fall... Kind of makes you wonder, eh? ![]() warmhrt, Indeed, there was much emotion lying beneath the surface of this one me thinks... but one shouldn't have to look too hard to find it. Ellie, a very long story, indeed. ![]() Sunshine... nothing more fulfilling from this poet's standpoint. TY serenity, somehow you always know just what to say dear. TY Robert, your words humble me. Thank you my friend. Mistik, even if the poem wasn't readily understood, I am glad I conveyed the feeling so well unto you. That's enough to make me smile.. ![]() Beki, Quite the compliment there, my sincerest thanks. Indeed, there are a "nameless few" among us... Jeffrey, I am honored to have such a loyal friend and fellow poet as you. James, I'm so glad this reached you. Ruth, good to see you. And you may borrow that line any time you wish. ![]() Thank you each and all for such gracious comments. Michael |

Michael, with softness, sadness, and the sorcery of your craft you render me helpless once again, my friend. So nice...thank you... ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Wherein no deed by earth or air Exonerates those who weep there... and weep and weep. Tears of pain, some of joy, but ever dos't it seem there are the tears my friend. As with most of the pieces you write, you write echoes of me in every line. Mike, loved this, breathtaking in it's beauteous yet saddened intensity. Love ya man. |

Your poem reminds me of the movie "City of Angels",...I like how it is so true to fall to fly...great wisdom in this poem as with all of yours I read! I am touched by an angel(Michael was an arch angels name), as I read across your poem! ![]() |

Well - the upside of this is that angels without wings have to be walking among us - and that's a good thing... This is one of my favorites of your work, Michael... It's wonderful.. ![]() |

Some angels may not be able to fly with beautiful gold spun wings but they can fly through their poetry and their effect on other's lives. I love this poem, about falling before you can fly. Lovely. Denise, much thanks - glad you enjoyed the read. Claire, *pondering helpless*... I could get to liking that me thinks... ![]() Nicole, you are the true keeper of my secrets... you amaze me too, dear. Chris, we were cut from the same cloth me thinks... Knew you'd relate tot his one. ![]() Romantic Heart, Ah, that was one of my favorite movies too... I would fall for Mag Ryan me thinks...LOL nan, indeeed - I think I've run into one or two in my time. ESP, I suspect every angel is as individualized as every human is... they all probably have a special gift to share... Thank you all for the kind replies... Just to be clear though, the "fall to fly" is referancing the fact some people have to give up on their ideals (what makes the who they are) just to fit into society these days, and that truly is sad to me... (letting out the breath I was holding) This, Michael, is poetry. ![]() By ev'ry rendered graceless thought Or gloriole that served them not. Perfect. --Me Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |
