A Gift of Forever A small delicate box Wrapped, with Christmas paper and red lace She takes it to hand Pale and drawn, is her distraught face. The last gift to be opened Grief has pieced a hole through her heart And anger holds no answers Never can we choose, when our loved ones will depart Unwrapped, and held tight in her hand A perfect shimmering gold chain A floating heart, its companion For one brief moment, she feel’s nothing but pain As her eyes well to tears There is a card she must read Collecting herself She struggles for the breath, she needs The words were as clear as crystal That swirled in her head A message, so perfect And this, is what it said A heart with wings Will float back and forth, forever Though you may never see me For eternity we shall be together Remember me as I was Happier times, like the pictures in the hallway Think of me, my love For I shall think of you.....always Marina May 1 2000 [This message has been edited by Marina (edited 05-02-2000).] |

Marina, this is such a poignant scene, and that you've dedicated it to your mother makes it that much more tender. So lovely, this. Thank you for sharing something so personal. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Marina, I can feel the power of the love in your poem. It is very strong and heartfelt. I really like this. Wonderfully done! Trust Instinct. Instinct will keep an animal alive, but Logic can kill a man. Richard "Rickey" N. Boydstun, Jr. |

Marina, I think this is the most powerful poem you have ever written. The last stanza was amazing. I think I held my breath while reading some of this. Bravo James |

This poem is very, very special to me. I wrote it for my mother. It is a true story of the the day my Dad passed on, Dec 23/97. The Doctors told us that he would be fine and would see Christmas. He had been battling Hep. C for a peroid of time, which he has contracted during a blood tranfusion in 1977. Even though we were told he would make it, he knew better. These were his final words, that he spoke and as always they were for his one and only true love....my Mom. Marina [This message has been edited by Marina (edited 05-02-2000).] |
