My Roses Thirst For Autumn The roses in my garden are wilting Shreds of summer splendor. Entwined with bark and dead weeds, Their glory is fading on the hot ground. My roses thirst for Autumn days, The final chapter of rest. I am weary of being on my knees, Glittering in the hot sun. I long for cool Autumn air, With fresh winds stirring, Blowing leaves in colorful whirlwinds. Then I’ll rake and pull dead weeds, And gather tattered rose petals To adorn my coffee table; A remnant of glory days. For now, I'm done. The garden can grow as she will. I know the feeling. some of my roses have grown ten feet high. How am I supposed to deadhead? But its too soon here to quit. Autumn will be welcome though. If only winter didn't follow. Joyce |

*sigh* This is lovely. Here in the south where we've had no rain, the roses, though blooming, appear in a perpetual state of thirst. Very dry and brittle to the touch. Your poem pictured this perfectly. Thank you for the imagery. |

Deb: My roses too are longing for cooler weather. They are all blooming profusely but the blooms start to dry up almost as soon as the open. It's such a short season for them but maybe they'll revive in the fall. Betty Lou Hebert |

Such lovely phrasing and strong sense of atmosphere... And I also know the feeling -- summer has been hot and it's only half over, sigh... Lary |
