Listening to every heart

0 posted 2002-07-20 08:20 AM

Thirty two years later

Assuage all these, these
memories
and kiss the love goodbye…

my baby is going to try again
in finding love, and giving hers,
one more solemn try

so I sit alone in early morn
my thoughts all full, you see,
as I ponder all that was,
here, in my memories

the pink sign of the early days
those dunkin’ donut delights,
the scrape for quarters in our change
those hot and sultry nights

the hardships that we bore
for we’d only just begun ~
still, the strains of that old song
trip me up that ladder’s rung

to say I’m sorry for that day
when first we’d blessed our wed
leaves me shaking this weariness
leaves me shaking this weary head

hear heave of sigh, a lonesome sound,
a new road, companion of choice ~
but without you, there’d been no her,
though still, I hear your voice

so in some way, I hope you hear
this thank you come your way
as I watch her walking near
on this, our baby’s wedding day

and in your world, I hope you found
that light to fill your soul,
for though I was wrong about my love
without you, there’d be this hole…

You can't possibly know how close to home this hit me. It gave me goose bumps. I really like the way you constructed this piece. well done.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Sunshine:  I really like this.  So expressive!  Everything happens for a reason I guess.

So effortlessly the picture of a world-weary person whose life has the shining moment of offspring beginning life.  The tumble of the words signals mixed feelings toward the union that gave the world this child.

thanks for your many comments on my writing.  Ken

I relate to this and you have expressed it well.  I too had to go through those momentous moments alone without my husband.  In my case he died before my children were grown so he missed all of the weddings, the grandbabies and their other joys.  Love, Joyce

Your critique message says "I can't learn without you ... teach me."

Well, it's obvious I have much, much more to learn from you than ever you shall from me.

Teach me.

Thank you all for reading.  This was written on the morning of my baby's wedding day...an event like that never fails to allow one to reminisce, and to think back on all of the water that has gone under the bridge...

Your words are always so perfectly composed. This was a stunning piece, which would relate to so many people without losing its intimacy. I thoroughly enjoyed.

Karilea...after going through a similar situation...I know how this felt.
The ending stanza did give closure to this piece..
and I hope to that time of your life as well.
I have no idea how I missed this before...
but, I'm so pleased I found it here.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Karilea, though I haven't approached this moment of my life yet, I understand how bittersweet of an experience it can be to watch a child grow to their wedding day and then miss them ever so much but meanwhile being so happy for them and knowing they'll be treading on shasta lily fields barefoot pursuing their dreams wearing the beads of their loved ones! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, know your child will always love you, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

This is such a true portrayel of the ups and downs of life, from birth to your lovely daughter's wedding. You have done your job and she will make you proud. Luv Maggie

G'ay Karilea.  I went back looking and found this delightful caring and reflective piece.  They do grow up so quickly.  I have two boys and two girls and we have a picture gallery on our lounge room wall and I often sit and reminisce back to all their childhood years.  Enjoyed this.
