Discriminating Cat Dear Kitty, I looked at you today I guess in more discerning way. I've been seeing through eyes of love. I noticed not the changes of Your hair, once softer than my own, Is coarser now, time must have flown While I was busy with my cares And going about my own affairs. I'm counting back, how many years Since we found you and calmed your fears? You were a very timid cat And though you've come a ways from that, You still will only come to me. Of the whole of humanity You've chosen me to be your friend. And so I'll be unto the end. My kids do not believe in you. You hide whenever they're in view. They call you Mother's phantom cat. They find it very funny that I've claimed you for these fourteen years. They laugh so hard they come to tears At their own wit, but we don't care. When they go home you'll still be here. You trusted Stanley, it was he Who introduced you first to me. He found you holed up in the shed, A pile of shavings for your bed. We coaxed you out, you've never strayed. Cats come and go but you have stayed. Your kingdom is deck and garage. But Kitty you are no mirage. So now I must look after me. If I should go, where would you be? I am your only earthly friend. No other person could attend To all your needs. We've come this far, So we will both stay where we are. The day that one of us is gone, The other will be all alone. By Joyce 06/15/02 |

Joyce this is truly heartfelt. Lovely tribute to a friend. Barvo. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

Joyce: I enjoyed this poem so much. We have a half-wild cat that no one ever sees but us! She used to come in with the raccoons when she was a tiny kitten and we always wondered if she lived with them. It took years to tame her to the poine where she would come in on our patio and another couple of years to get her to come into the house. She is a small gray cat and very sweet but so shy and still mostly an outdoor kitty. Betty Lou Hebert |

Thank you Pegasus and Loner. Nice of you to comment. Betty This cat will come in the house if I am absolutely alone and will even sleep on the end of my bed some nights. But he goes wild if anyone should knock on the door or make an appearance. He really depends on me. Joyce |
