Waiting For the Bus It's six p.m.My work is done. I wait and watch the sinking sun. The bus is late.I give a sigh. A streetlight comes to life nearby. A cold green eye, against the sky. It stares about impersonally. A hostile chill creeps over me. There's not another soul around And as I look down at the ground, I hear a sudden, hissing sound. I look back at the light and see It's long, arched neck hang threateningly. Just like a python in the night, That's opening it's mouth to bite, But then, the bus comes into sight! So from now on, somehow, someway, I'll leave before the end of day And I don't care what you may say, A snake is living in that light. Please don't scoff.I know I'm right! I like the story. We say our minds will play tricks, but we know what is really lurking out there… Thanks Melton |

Thanks Joyce: I wrote this some years ago when I worked in Seattle and had a streetlight that hovered over me at the bus stop. Betty Lou Hebert |

pegasus111: Thank you for commenting and also really appreciate your bringing the typo to my attention. I definitely meant "bite". I have corrected it. Good of you to let me know as I missed it in editing. Betty Lou Hebert |

Proof positive that overtime never pays! I liked the ominous feel of this, especially when you portrayed it in everyday, common things. I think it is cool, that the bus became the hero. Sometimes moving on can be the best relief!! |
