Into McDonald’s I watched them stroll Holding hands, walking tall and bold. Just one combo meal was ordered And an extra cup, the old man muttered. He cut the burger right down the middle, She folded her hands and did not twiddle. He pour half his drink into the cup, Divided the fries, and he began to sup. I thought that they may be poor So, I asked, “May I buy you more?” He said, No son, you don’t understand. We’ve been married 50 years, this is our plan. Our entire marriage has been fifty-fifty. “Congratulations”, I said. “That’s rather nifty.” I turned to her, said, “Now you can eat yours.” Oh no, she replied. It’s his turn with the dentures. |
