The autumn storm pruned away the dead limbs In the old tree in the yard Decayed limbs snapped scattering pieces Moss covered rotten dead wood Littered the soggy wet green sod I inspect the tree whose limbs Have been tossed about It's still producing sweet nut meats But it's time is about to run out It's better days long have been past And it now stands ugly and downcast A little sprout has grown Beneath the old pecan tree Soon to replace the old with the new As November days slowly comes to a close It will soon be time for Out with the old and In with the new Meanwhile.. I walk over and around all the yard Picking up pieces of the brittle old tree Knowing some day soon Someone will pick up after me [This message has been edited by Songbird (edited 12-01-2001).] |

Hmmm....I hope we're not picking up after you for a while ....old trees are the best though, for their stories are more enjoyable toread Sol " The question shouldn't be...'Why are we here?' but rather 'ARE we here? " |

Every year I lose another old tree that was planted by the last generation. I have to get planting to keep up. Your poem hit the spot. Joyce |

Sometimes I think it would be nice to freeze-frame life, but then nothing new could come, could it? Nice poem! |
