Her pliable spirit attracts him first, his ego satisfied with her beauty. Sups her naivety, quenching his thirst, charms her slyly while fostering duty. Triumphant he waits, his prize now in sight, his woman, his prey walking down the aisle. A virgin book upon which he will write, vision of chastity making him smile. The bruising begins with honeymoon nights, she practices forgiveness again and again. He nibbles her spirit, then takes great bites, then begs his pardon for all of her pain. In her blood he writes accurate and neat, the final chapter of his book, complete. |

Thank you both. Sometimes I write about life and its darker side.I was asked to write a sonnet and this one is my attempt at a sonnet but with a deep message. This one is about and for the very many women who get caught up in abusive relationships. I have no personal experience of this but I have seen it happen and It breaks my heart to see women so down-trodden by partners who take away the souls and personality of these women. Thank you for your kind comments. Hugs from June xxx |

Dear June: Very effective write. Painful to read but not as painful as living through something like this. There is far too much of this in today's world. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |
