Wind Full of Sighs

There is a country house I know
Where sunlight enters in,
To fill the rooms with amber light,
So morning can begin.
The view is to the eastward,
Where timbered mountains rise
And in the lower valley,
The wind is full of sighs.

The house looks strong and massive.
Its windows tall and wide.
It dominates its gardens
And all the countryside.
The owner's gone, it seems a shame
There's no one here to see
The flowers and the fruitings
That soon will come to be.

It makes me sad to see it,
With no one home to share,
These days of springtime passing
And bird song, everywhere!

What a beautiful picture you've painted, although it has a hint of sadness as well. Awesome having it published!!! I can see why!

I can just see it.  An abandoned house with the garden struggling to survive.  I am sure if I left for a month, Nature would tak my garden back.  Love, joyce

Lovebug:  Thanks for your nice remarks. You're right about a "hint of sadness".  This house belonged to a very dear friend of mine, years ago, and after she died, the house was sold and ultimately abandoned.

Dear Joyce:  Thanks for reading.  You are right, that Mother Nature doesn't wait long, once a garden is no longer tended, to reclaim the land.

Dear Isobel:  It's so nice to see your posts now that you have your computer problems solved!  I'm glad you liked this.
The house is at Sherwood, Oregon and once belonged to a friend of mine. Such a shame to have it become so run down.

Love
Betty Lou

Life is a fleeting thing, awesome in both its joy and sadness. things made by man fade into dust but the creations of the divine One remain forever.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
