Unexpected Guests

When I am dressed for company
Nobody comes to make a call,
But when I'm on my knees to clean
I am a magnet for them all.

I have a kerchief round my head
And all the rugs are in a pile.
I hear a knock upon the door.
My neighbor stops to chat a while.

I have on my most ragged jeans,
My tee shirt shows a lot of wear.
The chairs have been turned upside down.
I'm chasing cobwebs everywhere.

I hear some laughter in the yard,
It's relatives from far away.
If they had thought to phone ahead,
I'd not be in this mess today.

I truly want to run and hide;
Instead I make my smiley face
And play the hostess just as grand
As if dressed in my finest lace.

I right the chairs, ask them to sit
And go to make a pot of tea,
Glance in the mirror, comb my hair;
I'm ready for my company.

Dear Joyce:  A cute poem and I know this feeling all too well.  You would think phones had never been invented as far as some people are concerned! They always catch you at the worst moment!

Joyce~
*giggling* over this one~

Oh my ... it's 'almost' worse than running to the store for 'just a minute' ... not all gussied up ... and running into the old boyfriend !!!

I'm sure you'd be the perfect hostess in whatever circumstances ... and ... *knock-knock* ... OPEN THE DOOR ... I KNOW YOU'RE HOME !
Just me ... travelled danged near three thousand miles to see you and not a danged phone in sight all the way there !!

Believe it or not ... someone in my family did just that to me many years ago ... arriving at 9:30 p.m. ... and bring a grand total of 2 adults and 4 kids with them !!!!
Yeah ... they got put up over night ... and shown the best motel available the next~

As you can see ... this one stirred me !!

I know this has happened to everyone.  But it can be annoying.  Thanks for reading Betty and Marge.  Love, Joyce

Hehe, very cute! This happens to me a lot. More often, I just run out to get something and see everybody.. classmates, friends, OLD professors, esc.. lol!

Nice stuff I enjoyed it!

Dear Joyce

I know the feeling!  When I'm in my 'lazy' mood, I do get a phone call however, that only gives me 20 minutes to rush around and straighten things up a bit.  By the time they arrive I'm exhausted.

Good poem!

Love Isobel xo
