"Thirty days hath September..." Yet I can already tell Only seventeen days ago We had a taste of hell I awoke to the morning radio Saying "No,no, this can't be true" And turned on my newswatch, CNN The world took on a different hue I saw the second passenger jet Slam into tower two And the ferocity of its blaze Sending concrete chunks askew I readied for work gloomily Much like my fellow countrymen Escaping for a quick look at the TV Only making my heart sadden Glancing at my discharge papers Wishing it wasn't so Wanting to join my brothers and sisters at arms Joining them as they go Now I take on my new role As a civilian and an American Unflirling the flag I once pledged to defend And believing in her glory, again We are a United country this hour Even this tragedy's wake Let us keep our unity strong At least, for our children's sake [This message has been edited by Wikket (edited 09-28-2001).] |

We are a United country this hour Even this tragedy's wake Let us keep our unity strong At least, for our children's sake Yes..even tho this is a gruelling experience.. it is so good to see how united we are as Americans and have the support of freedom loving people of the world. I think we all know that the future of our children is at stake. Good write. |

Good poem and it must be especially hard for you, having been in the military, now having to stay home at a time like this. Betty Lou Hebert |

This is a wonderful patriotic and compassionate poem, Wickett. I know we all feel as though we must do something to help even though we are not able to actually join the soldiers and their kind. Joyce |

Songbird: Thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Trillium: Yes, it is hard being former military. But I know if I went now, I would be no help to my unit...I will do my job here in the U.S., and help out those I can through the Red Cross...Thank you for your comment. Joyce: Thank you, I'm very glad you liked this one. Thanks again for your comment. Marge: Your Welcome! Thanks for your comment. ~~Jamie "There's something wrong with the world today..." --Aerosmith, Living on the Edge |
