The Wolf Moon

The winter moon was rising high
Into a clear, unclouded sky
And I had stepped outside my door
To gaze upon the night once more,
When from the hills that rose beyond
The fallow field and frozen pond,
I heard a wolf howl mournfully.
I held my breath to wait and see
If any answer I could hear
And when it came, it was quite near.
It thrilled me to the very core,
To learn that wolves lived here once more
And in my wilderness, at least,
There's ample room for man and beast!

oh my!!  how I love your words lady! Your nature pieces are thrilling

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Chris:  Thanks!  It's an older one, but I discovered I'd never posted it here before.
Hoped people would enjoy it.

Annie:  Thanks for reading and wolves are a favorite of mine too.  I grew up in northern Alberta where there used to be many of them.

Dear Joyce:  I assume you are thinking of "In the eyes of the Wild" when you say you've seen it before?  I don't think I've posted it on the Internet before. Maybe I have and didn't make a note of it!!

This was an exciting image - esp. like the last 2 lines.

The title is captivating.
