From a Poet's Heart

I'd like to leave a legacy
For all those coming after me,
Of written words, that transcend time
And open up the world of rhyme.
I'd want each piece to be possessed
Of special merit and be blessed
With something setting it apart.
A missive from a poet's heart,
That reflects the world I've known
And shows that I can trim and hone
Each word, until it fits the space
And stands in its intended place!

No matter what I had to say,
I'd hope the subject matter may
Strike a chord in someone's soul.
Then I would realize my goal.
But yet, I know it's not to be.
There is no immortality
For striving poets, such as I,
Though I still feel compelled to try
And there's a clouded place, inside,
Where an epic poem may hide!

Oh Betty, You are so wrong.  You have achieved immortality I am sure with your beautiful words as surely as the famed poets of old when poetry was appreciated by the world. I am sure they will be passed down through the ages by your children and theirs.  Love, Joyce

Betty, I feel the same way. I'm getting together everything Ive written thus far and saving them for my children and their children. But I don't think I will ever write anything new. You hang in there though, your words are lovely.
Soft hugs,
Jules

Jules;  Thanks for the encouragement.  I have had a couple of chapbooks published and hopefully will be able to do a few more to leave my family.  It's easier for them to have books rather than a ton of loose sheets, to read.

Dear Betty Lou

I agree with Joyce!  You certainly have already left your mark as a credited poetess!  Your legacy will be passed down from generation to generation!  My grandchildren (when they arrive) will know from me what a wonderful poetess you are!!!

As you know I am disconnecting from the net for a few months.  I will miss you all here in PiP.

Love Isobel xo

There is no immortality you say!!!! With my mouth in town? Look, girl, I've been stutting your stuff now for quite a while!
Now, this poem says it exactly like it is. Those words are each a gem and they cling together with your gifted glue to make them an exquisite image. 100 years from now when they read your poem and then one of Robert Frost's, they're gonna say, "Robert Who? Oh, yeah I remember him; he invented the sweet gooey stuff that goes on top of cakes."
Great poem, O thou immortal one. Love, Barb

Betty, i hope you don't mind my using your given name..once i started reading your writing i just can't stop....you will never be one that in lost in mere mortality. like the others not only do i read but i talk and encourage people to read your poetry because there are times when you have lifted my very soul from such dispere(sp) and have helped me in ways that you will never know. not to mention you always have a kind word for my writing. you will be remembered not just for what you write but for who you are...

what more can I possibly add to the lovely platitudes already bestowed ( well, I suppose I could squeeze out a few lines in honor of the occasion.)

*from "The Poet's Crucible"

she has been many people
left indelible marks
on a multitude of
strangers and loved ones alike
all have been changed
by her presence........

she is all
she is nothing
she is a poet..

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Dear Annie:  I certainly don't mind your using my "real" name.  I picked Trillium for a user name when I joined, because they bloom in April and I had some of them on my desk. I joined in April, 4 years ago.

Annie you can't know how much your words mean to me!  To be aware that something I have written, helped you over a tough time, is so rewarding for me. Thank you for telling me and also for reading my poetry.

Dear Betty Lou,

"Striving poet, such as I". Oh dear one, you surely have touched many a soul with your talent for poetry. I myself have been touched deeply by your words, as with all wonderful poets in this forum. Each has something unique and beautiful to share.

Love,
Patricia
