Dreams Are Left Behind

There are the journeys that we make
Within our minds.It doesn't take
Much time at all, to find the place,
You last saw a beloved face.
Sometimes, these journeys are the best.
Our memories are greatly blessed
By never seeing signs of change
Or how the years can rearrange
Familiar things and people who
Have always stayed the same, for you.

Reality is often sad.
Destroys illusions that you've had
And many times, we wish that we
Had not disturbed our history.
Reality lives every day,
In each event that comes our way
And if we should escape awhile,
To let the past produce a smile,
It only strengthens us the more
For the real world outside our door.

Anticipation often lends
A pleasant glow to what life sends,
But in reality we find,
Too often dreams are left behind!

A lovely poem Betty and so true.  We keep looking for our dreams and suddenly they are all behind us.  Love, Joyce

Betty Lou, this speaks loud and clear. We have to take on reality...but who would stand in our way in following the dream, as well?

Enjoyed this published piece very much!

Sunshine:  Thanks for leaving your comment and I would be the last one to stand in the way of dreams!  I still have a few of my own!

Dear Betty Lou

I can really relate to this poem.  It is a shame though that we do leave our dreams behind because I sure don't like what's waiting outside that door!  Guess I have to face up to reality!

Love Isobel xo

Dear Isobel:  One thing about it, we can always make new dreams to replace the ones we've left behind!

passing shadows:  Thanks for saying you like my work!  I have posted in Open a long time ago, without much success.  It's such a busy site and there are so many wonderful poets there! I will try it again one of these days, just for you!

Trillium,

This is a great write and a reminder to me to keep trudging along to make my dreams a reality and not let them fade into my past. Thanks
