New Year

Dear Lord if I'm allowed to hear
The bells ring in the brand new year,
Then I will do my very best
To take what comes without protest.

So many did not live to see
This new year in and what's to be.
They had their plans, the same as I;
Loved life and did not want to die.

May I use these hours, these days, these years
To help to dry another's tears;
To make this place in my weak way,
Haven for peace and love each day.

If I could help just one lost soul
To put his life in Your control;
Perhaps that would be reason why
I still live on, as others die.

In light of the terrible events, of the recent days especially, this is just the most touching piece~
