Garbage Day

Today's garbage day.
I had almost forgotten.
I run through the house
As if I'm besotten.

I grab for the trash
Looking this way and that;
Throw it all in the can
But rescue the cat.

"Have I missed him?" I wail.
"Then what will I do?
There's no room in the can
For next week's garbage too."

Where was my mind?
I continue to run.
I know why I'm late
When all's said and done.

I had turned on the screen
And searched on the site.
Has anyone answered
My poem overnight?

I read my email
And sent some replies.
I junked all the stuff
That was sent in disguise.

Then I turned to home page
And looked for the news
Not watching the time
As I idly peruse.

They'll find me someday
At my desktop I know;
Knee deep in clutter
But still hitting "GO".

Dear Joyce:

This is so cute and clever.  Made me laugh! We haul our own garbage, since we live in the country, or I'm sure I'd be in the same predicament!  Hope you didn't miss the truck!

Good one. I am constantly told to, 'clean up this clutter', on the desk as well as the screen.

Thanks, Melton

LOL!!! I do enjoy your sense of humor and I certainly can relate to everything that you have written including forgetting the garbage and my pesky cat that runs out each chance he gets. -Bob

Dear Joyce

You are not going to believe this.  As soon as I read the title of your poem 'Garbage Day', I myself am in a dither.  It is after 11pm here on a Wednesday, and normally I put the bins out in the afternoon as the  bin man comes very early Thursday morning.

Well, I best go to bed now so as I can get up at 5am to try and beat that bin man at his own game.

By the way, I liked this poem.

Love Isobel

you know,

such reclusive behavior is a boon to modern society, as it clears the roadways and public works from over-burden.

Fret not, fellow computer zombie,

you are FAR from alone.

Funny and witty - everybody's enjoying this write Joyce, and I'm joing the fun.

Maybe click "Delete" for all the clutter on our screens too?  and all the "documents" we keep on saving into our hard disk - I ought to set aside a garbage day for computers too...*groan*

Oh yeah,hmmm.
Clutter? So that's what this stuff is! I thought it was important that's why I've been saving it for so long. I just never know when I might need this identifcation tag that i used 5 years ago at a school in Georgia. Michigan isn't that far from Georgia....Okay, I'll get rid of it. They'll give me a new one when I go back.
Great poem!!! love, Barb

ROTFLMBO....

Well then - Today happens to be Garbage Day here as well.. BUT - We're the FIRST on the pick-up schedule!  If we don't get our trash out to the edge of the street by 6:30 am, we likely miss it.  If we put it out the night before, it gets scattered about.

We went out this morning - very early - to put it out, and found we'd MISSED it.  Back inside, the fire alarms were wailing because of the bacon cooking... The kids missed the bus because of running late... Had to drive them to school... and the rest of the day will be off by five minutes as well, I expect...

And we'll have TWICE as much next week..

This is a WONDERFUL poem!

p.s. - I once wrote a poem about "Trash Art" - It's in the archives somewhere...
