Our Beach Retreat The evening slides away from me And disappears beyond the sea, Leaving me to contemplate Returning home, before too late To see the path, so shadowed now, That I begin to wonder how I let myself become entranced With setting sun, I never glanced Behind, to see how little light Remained before approaching night! The white sand crunches under shoe. I hurry onward;as I do, I peer into the dark to see If someone's come to look for me. Then up ahead, there is a spark. A flashlight cutting through the dark And very soon, I meet and greet The one who shares my beach retreat And he who also shares my life, Tells me he's glad I am his wife! Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Joyce: This is based on an old memory from 1954. Our one son was a baby and we spent the summer on the Oregon Coast. Since one of us stayed with him, the other would go to the beach for awhile.
