What's Going On? |

I am not a fuddy-duddy, I think scientists are great, As long as they don't mess around As some have done of late. Why did they take an ear of corn Which was absolute perfection And fill it so full of sugar, It is more like a confection? What's going on inside their heads? There's just no way of tellin'. Is there anything more useless Than a seedless watermelon? Anyone who has picked fresh fruit From her own strawberry patch, Knows those hardy things with shelf-life, Are just no kind of match. Roses without their smell, Bluebells that aren't blue, With these strange monstrosities, What's a nature child to do? I don't know how they did it And it really made me laugh, The latest thing I saw for sale, Some fatless half and half. And what has happened to chicken? It truly is incredible. Now we must add sauces or gravy, To make it even edible. I've searched for some old-fashioned Cornmeal for good cornbread. It's ground so fine, more flour than meal; Bread tastes like cake instead. Fuzzless peaches and burpless cucumbers, They may be pretty to see, But they're not the way that nature planned, And they don't taste good to me. Seedless grapes are just for sissies, They are nothing without their crunch. I guess I'll go into the kitchen And have a pill for lunch. By Joyce: 9/1/01 |

I'm with you, Joyce, it's a sorry state of affairs. It has to survive machine handling and shipping. Nothing else matters. (If it looks good, the suckers will buy it.) Enjoyed this piece nonetheless. |

LOL. Oh this is hilarious. What a humourous look at genetic modifying (or whatever they call it) Thanks for the chuckle If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

I read this out loud and it is so funny! Except that it is the awful truth they've taken the flavor and fun from most of my favorite foods! And the only exception? I actually enjoy seedless watermelons, if they are juicy and sweet. But they better not mess with the avocados or the plums! Now that would be the pits! |

Thanks everyone for enjloying my little tirade. Actually I can't eat corn any more and I used to love it, but the corn flavor is all gone. I would like seedless watermelons but the ones I have tried are not sweet and juicy and have no texture like the good old kind. Woe is me. Joyce |

I enjoyed this very much, and agree with you even more-they never know when to stop fixing what don't need fixed in the first place! |

Joyce: Very clever and fun and all too true! What scares me though, is the cloning of animals and even people! I really wish they'd stick with fruits and veggies if they have to meddle with nature! Betty Lou Hebert |
