Midnight beats down upon the weary wanderer As he crosses loud rivers and silent dell Only the moon to guide him, faith to remind him Of spoken vows and sacred quest he made To mysterious place of ancient race He seeks an object of cold stone and Earth Set apart from others just like itself Upon a lonely hilltop shrouded in strangling weeds Sweat pours down the brow of the weary wanderer As he toils up the ageless, broken land Of silence, darkness, and death Atop the hill he gazes down At rows of stones for miles around Then he beholds the single massive one, It looms over him, stone and Earth The weary wanderer deciphers cryptic runes Upon its face is written his name And everyone else’s too; Heralding that which patiently lies Below stone and Earth |
