Free-loaders

The nectar feeder is refilled,
The humming birds have found it.
They dip and dive, compete for space
In ecstasy around it.

They soar in swift abandon
As though their route pre-planned.
How they avoid collisions
I cannot understand.

Two airplanes flying close as this
Would end up in disaster;
But they zoom by in narrow miss
And just keep going faster.

They glisten in the sunlight
Like dew-dipped, darting flowers.
Their rainbow hued maneuvers
Keep me entranced for hours.

These bundles of bottled energy
Stop often for refill.
I furnish their fuel freely
And never send a bill.

Dear Joyce:  This is wonderful!  I too enjoy the hummingbirds so much and lose all track of time when I am watching them we have a white chinned one this year and it's the first time I've ever seen it.

Dear Joyce

A wonderful poem of hummingbirds.  I have never seen a hummingbird in real life.  You and Betty Lou are very blessed indeed.

Joyce~
Ah yes ... those precious hummers ... absolute beauty in motion~

Your poem certainly does them justice ... and a delightful read it is~

In my yard/garden I have the Pagoda plants as a blooming attractor that these hummingbirds and butterflies simply adore ...~
