The copper taste of her lips stays, Sweet and unbidden upon my mouth. Memories of the moonlight cascading Through soft brown hair as we walked Back to her room. Thoughts of how She talked of boys she desires, telling Her girlfriends that she longs for some Other man while she holds my trembling Hand within hers. Sorrows drowned and forgotten, only Remembered by subconcious thoughts Uncontrolled by my mind. How long My thoughts were bent on making her mine, All lost among talk of a basketball player And her longing for him. All that remains Is her hand upon my face, telling me How handsome, how sweet, how good How perfect I might be. I am haunted by her memory. "Ain't Got no quarrels with God, ain't got no time to grow old. Lord knows I'm weak, won't somebody get me off of this reef" |
