Victory!

Our maple tree was dressed for spring,
With singing birds and everything,
But in the morning's glaring light,
I see that snow sneaked in last night
And now the branches, thrusting high
Like brittle fingers, towards the sky,
Are rimed with ice and starkly white.
There is no trace of spring in sight.

Old winter's a relentless foe.
I'm always glad to see him go.
He's like a cranky neighbor, who,
Casts jaundiced eye on all you do,
But when his final deed is done,
We'll toast his absence, greet the sun
With laughing faces, raised to see
Spring, in vibrant vistory!

Dear Joyce:  Thanks for reading. It always catches me by surprise when we have a few nice days and then have some snow again.

Denise:  Thanks for commenting.  we are not in our springtim mode here either. Had snow on Wednesday last week and on into Thursday.
Most of it has melted but it stays cold. I keep looking for green things in the yard, but there are very few.

Dear Betty Lou

This is wonderful.  I enjoyed it.

Could I make a suggestion though.  The line where it says: Are rimed with ice and starkly white.

rimed would be rimmed.

Dear Isobel:  Thanks for your nice comments.
I actually did mean to use "rimed" as in the frozen, milky white ice that is formed on branches and plants, by water vapor that freezes on them. It coats them with it.

I can see where you might have thought I meant "rimmed" so thanks for mentioning it to me. You probably do not ever see "rime" in Australia!

Dear Betty Lou

I feel so foolish.  Sorry!  Next time I am not sure of 'wording', I will check with a dictionary first.

Trillium,

This is a beauty. Even though I hate winter I guess it does help us to enjoy spring more. Thank you for sharing.

Dear Isobel:

Don't apologize! I'm sure there are many words that are different in our country from yours. Thanks for your message however and I appreciate it.

Dawn G:  Thanks.  I am not a winter fan either, but I have to admit, there is a lot of beauty in it!
