Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2004-03-10 09:46 PM

with a certain smallness, i creep towards tomorrow,
slyly and deliberate,
watching winter peek at me,
in turn of eye.

as ancient hands,
bend and thaw and branch
the trees
i climb down from their halos
admiring handiwork
of crooked horizons

spring was soon, someone told me
but weeks brought thick pastry snow
and we indulged
too plentifully
until sun sighed a solemn song
letting us pray
for forgivness

mama told me it was a sin to yearn for seasons ago,
but i always knew
i was no saint

so i wished for a simple fall.

If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi
