Old Ashes The woodland fills with sounds of rain And I begin to hear again From memories I've treasured long, A wind and water, autumn song. From fires that are dead and cold, The smell of ashes, wet and old. From cries of geese upon the bay, Who rest but briefly on their way, To where the sunny days still dwell, Come images I know so well. I picture us together here And if I shed a silent tear, There's not a soul to see it fall. The pain and passion I recall, From spring to autumn's closing door, But my life changed forevermore. Yet what a wealth of memories Were made from simple things like these! I've kept the gold, cast out the dross And seldom think about the loss, But at this time of year it seems, The scent of autumn, brings old dreams! Very nice Betty. I think the sense of smell is very apt to evoke old memories. More than the other senses. Joyce |

Ah, Betty, this is so poignant and nestalgic, filled with the bittersweet memories of a love that seems was a treasure and gift so rare! Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

Yes..I can relate very well with this one. This time of year holds both good and bad memories. I try to dwell on the good ones. |
