On Easter, in a traffic jam, I lost a spiral-cut, honey-glazed ham. Thanksgiving turned a little quirky. I cremated a stuffed, twenty pound turkey. On Christmas Day, the trouble began- dinner refused to get into the pan. Fruit cake kept all the birds in town. They ate with relish- couldn't get off the ground. Cookies I baked passed the test- few dental bills for this year's guests. My pumpkin pie was really a take- it caused eyes to water, all knees to shake. The fault wasn't mine about the eggnog. It got stuck in the pipes- caused the new drain to clog. On New Year's Day, my guests all wore black. They dined and they whined, and they aren't coming back. Valentine's Day was homemade fudge candy- I couldn't explain "gritty and sandy." But Halloween was my greatest success. The dinner I cooked was truly the best. The ghost praised my cooking; it went to my head. I couldn't kill him; he was already dead. |

(giggles in delight) I don't think my mother has cooked a single Halloween entree in the history of my life, dearest friend, Thanksgiving and Christmas would be the two pinnacle holidays of my mom's delightful cooking so we're in the eye of the hurricane as we speak! I promised I'd go looking for this and I'm glad It is a lot of fun. I know we'll be reading many more of your exploits. I was just turning over in my head, ideas for a poem about my own adventures the last few days. When things start they keep coming. Love this. Joyce |
