THE FISHERMAN'S GIRL

Three months gone at sea
its three weeks since he was to be home to me
Though I try I can't help but be scared
Always knew it could come to this, shoulda been prepared
I've walked this shore for many a lonely mile
wondering when and if I'll next see his foolish smile
and the hours are cruel, they go by so very slow
He was my first fella, and the only one I want to know

I remember that day in Carbonear
when first we kissed standing there at the end of the pier
Said he loved me and I swore I'd be true
and I will, what else is a girl like me to do
but cry and turn my tear-stained face to the sky

My Ma says there's other men
to take me dancing or strolling by the glen
"Sweet Christ, I do declare
he's the best man around, there's none can compare
So I'll find a way to go on
through the long empty nights til he comes home

And I long for the touch of his hand
making me wet as only he can
alone at night it's all I can think of
he is my only, he's my one true love
I recall how he'd smile when I'd fetch him a beer
and how he'd whisper his sweet lies in my ear
They say he's wrong for me, that he's just to wild
and even though I'm eighteen I'm really still a child
Tell me why he had to go and leave me here wanting to die

My Ma says there's other men
to take me dancing or strolling by the glen
Sweet Christ, I do declare
he's the best man around, there's none can compare
So I'll find a way to go on
through the long empty nights til he comes home

Everybody says how its a shame
how I've changed and they give him the blame
The preacher said I'm touched in the head
if I really think we'll ever be wed
but none of them really understands
that I have no choice, my heart is his to command
as the days pass I start to despair
that I'll ever feel his hands running through my hair
And I try but still sometimes I think I'd rather die

My Ma says there's other men
to take me dancing or strolling by the glen
Sweet Christ, I do declare
he's the best man around, there's none can compare
So I'll find a way to go on
through the long empty nights til he comes home

I like the message very much.  I don't feel comfortable giving critique to someone I don't know that well...But the message is very comforting to read for a man.
