Encounter in October

Within this cloistered place, we meet,
To share awhile a bowered seat.
We see the gardens we once knew,
Now such a wildly tangled view.
I miss the way they used to be,
But birds still come to sing to me
And build their nests to raise their brood.
A bright spot in my somber mood.

I feel the changing foliage
Reflects the turning of life's page.
The year is aging, so am I.
I watch the days move swiftly by
And wonder that we still retain
The love we've shared, although in vain.
Our lives weren't meant to blend, it's clear
And yet I still look for you here!

well!  an unusual write for you Betty but, I really like it.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

june:  Thanks for your kind comments.  This is actually about two friends of mine, who seldom can see each other, but have loved each other for many years.  Their family situations are keeping them apart. It is sad on the surface, but their feelings remain the same, through thick and thin!

pegasus111:  Thanks for liking this poem, as it is a departure for me, from the usual.
It's not about me at all, but two dear friends who are really "star-crossed lovers!"

Joyce:  Thanks and nice to see your comment. I wrote this about others who are having a difficult time even seeing each other.

Noah:  Thanks for your sympathetic response. My friends are an inspiration to me, as they never over step the bonds of their relationship and yet it is abiding.
