On December 7, 1941, There exists a battle we never won. Unexpected, a surprise attack, Time was the major thing that we lacked. General Tojo ordered the Japanese to fight, And so they made Oahu an awful sight. 2400 innocent people lost their life, Didn't get a chance to show they're strife. Japanese planes are coming one by one, Attacking the United States, knowing they've won. Everyone was asleep, except for a baby's tears. The natives awoke to the sounds of bombs in they're ears. People by the hundreds are starting to die. Can you still hear that little baby's cry? 19 ships have sunk in to the sea Along with some soldiers we'll never again see. Families are running away trying to save their existence, But the planes in the air are much too persistent. Tears are gradually being dropped in to the street, Blood is being spilled from wounds, not trying to be neat. Buildings and trees are hid with fire, This attack is one sharp wire. American planes are being smashed to the ground, I'm seeing this happen, but with no sound. I'm standing in shock I can hear my heart. The United States and Japan must part. Terror and fear have entered my eyes And I see it others as I watch them die. It tugs my heart to know there's nothing I can do, The hurt in this day can't be described. This is true. So - nobody needs to tell me, Why "This day will live in infamy!" there are 2 ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it. -unknown |

Jennifer~ You pulled some poignant heartstrings with this penning~ My father, who had been to Pearl Harbor before the attack, told me in my growing up years .... that it was a shame that a port of such beauty would always have to carry this terrible stigma for eternity~ Nicely expressed~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |
