Letter to My Body,

Greetings, O mass of flesh and blood of mine,
I have a bone or two to pick with you.
Now listen quietly, pray do not whine,
There is quite a list of things to get through.

For starters your size is surely too great,
Can’t it all function with slightly less space?
Time to cut down now please, not to inflate,
To allow me to move with style and grace.

And now to the top, move on to the hair,
Must it be at beck and call of the breeze?
I brush it, groom it, I take such good care,
Then step outside and all gone, I mean GEEZ!!!

While we’re at it, the face needs a quick look,
No, it flunks, big zero, too many spots!
Washing and fruit-eating as says my book,
So why are they here these appearance blots?!

All in all, you are a terrible mess,
And yet, I admit, you do serve me well.
You do the job, nothing more, nothing less,
Leaving what’s inside with the tale to tell.

Others may see me and not be impressed,
They have to look deeper, find me inside.
I know in my heart that this is the best,
So I’ll wear this “unique” cover with pride.

So listen here, o great imperfection,
Though I complain at you time and again,
I look on you with lots of affection,
On my page of life, you are not a stain!!

Liz...yes,you made me laugh! Not AT you,
mind you,but just at the cleverness of your wording in reference to the age-old malady of never being quite satisfied with our wickedly frustrating anatomies.Wonderful...

ESP: What a clever poem and I really enjoyed reading it. I guess very few of us are satisfied with what we look like! The ones who are satisfied are usually unbearably vain!
