At War It's time to put your signs away Our country is at war today. At war again for timeless reason Saving all from evil's treason. I remember Hitler. You sit in safety raising voice Against our leader's final choice, While sons and daughters risk their lives; Leaving behind children and wives. Remembering Pearl Harbor. Evilness like any cancer Must be removed, the only answer. Millions of folks today are free, Had we not helped they would not be. I remember Hitler. For shame! For shame! Have you forgotten Hitler? Joyce, I have such mixed feelings on protesting this war. On one hand I am so against war, on the other hand we absolutely must support our troops. I remember Vietnam! While sons and daughters risk their lives; Leaving behind children and wives. And there are many young 18, 19 and 20 year olds facing some very scary and possibly horrific stuff. God have mercy. I can accept that there will be wars because of evil men like Hitler and Saddam and bin Laden but it still breaks my heart when I think of the young men...some that were only boys yesterday...that will suffer the horror of war because of these evil men...James |

My heart is so troubled with this destruction of our humanity and spirit. Only God can put his hand to this and bring peace in our lives. Thank you for such a poem , such truth. |

I too remember Hitler. My brother in law lost most of his family in concentration camps. My uncle at age 22 was a decorated ace pilot in England. We spent much time in indoor shelters and the gas masks we had to wear were awful, I was just a little girl and grew up just outside of London. No one wants war, but it is as much a way of life as breathing. It would appear that it is only when it strikes close to home that people get really vocal, yet there is war going on every day somewhere in this world. Thank God we have a President who does not vascillate, who stands by his word and is not swayed by 'nasty and mean-spirited' press. Fear makes for too much criticism of things we don't know really know the TRUE facts of. I am glad I don't have any harder decisions to make than what to wear when I get up in the morning. |

Joyce: Good poem and I'm glad you posted it. I was a young girl growing up in Canada during World War II. Most of the men in our family went off to Europe to fight and many of them never came home. Those who did were recovering from wounds and life was never the same again. We were rationed and forced to walk wherever we wanted to go as there was no gasoline for pleasure. However, we were never bombed, gassed or tortured! We considered ourselves lucky! As much as we hated war and the horrors of it, we viewed it as necessary for our freedom and that of other nations. I guess we are going through that same thing on a lesser scale, now. Betty Lou Hebert |

Yes we were all at war even those who stayed home. I lost good friends in that war, young boys really. I had two brothers in it and they both came home but forever changed. But we knew it was for a reason that was worth it. Joyce |

Excellent writing, Joyce. Yes, everyone has the right to protest....too bad the protests weren't against Saddam Hussein while he was murdering his own people. For whatever reason, the die is cast and we need to stand behind our soldiers. I remember also... |

Excellent poem about the war, and no I have not forgotten Hitler. Even though I have only heard stories about him, and what he did to this nation, I am baffled at how anyone could. May our nation be strong and in god may we trust. blessing to all riley Windows stained with the fog, words written in by a girl. |
