Shoes off by the door and wander sock-footed past the good-luck dragon on the wall. Some luck – all the money’s gone and you expect her to pay the bills in salt. Gamble your house and gamble your wife, gamble your daughter and your twelve year old son. Tear up their lives and don't give a damn: you've a horse to bet on, a game to play, dice to roll, three lives to wreck and all their friends hearts to break. Double or nothing you'll just roll again to double your nothing and triple their pain. Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^ |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Lynne, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, it saddens me to see much gluttonous and avarice behavior in the world and how innocent are always hurt and abandoned by the evil of capitalism! (sad sigh) I just wish the whole system could collapse and we can go back to giving and sharing as certainly that isn't any more anarchy to that than keeping this up, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lynne, thank you for sharing, you have my vote! May love and light always shine upon you! I knew a man in California that gambled at the horse races and he kept refinancing his house to cover the loses...he finally lost his house and then his wife...of course I also know some men that lost their jobs and then lost their car and then their home and then their wives...James |

welcome back, Lynne! very cool descriptions here...this write is short but nonetheless i like the lines about the good-luck dragon (probably because i'm Chinese), paying your bills in salt and tripling pain... good work man! |

Thanks Paul, Loren and L & P (hehe). Well, I wasn't sure whether to submit one or not, because this time, I don't think i can afford to buy a copy if it gets voted in, and I do like to have a copy of everything I'm published in.. but I thought I would anyway.. I might be able to find the money somewhere.. work more hours or something! ^^ Thanks guys! Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^ |

I'm glad that you decided to submit this one, Lynne. I hope someone who has this terrible addiction will read it and see how it affects their family. You describe this very well. "Love makes the world go around" |

A perceptive and powerful poetic analysis of the psyche of an addicted gambler and the add-on tragedy that floods the lives of loved ones. This poem -a very good example of free verse-projects comtinuous frames of relevant images from beginning to climactic end. Thus, it involves the reader to the extent of awakening or re-awakening consciousness to a greater understanding of gambling addiction and the destructive effects it has on rational behaviour in all areas of life and living. Congratulations on an inspired and inspirational piece of writing. I wholeheartedly vote for its inclusion in the anthology. Patrick Talty |

Thank you both.. a gambling addiction is a hard thing to watch, and, no doubt, a harder thing to deal with. I wish words could fix all problems like this, but unfortunately, in the end, it is up to the individuals.. Thanks for reading - and appreciating - my poem. Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^ |

Yu Lan: This is an excellent poem about a heartbreaking subject. We lived in Reno, Nevada for many years and saw this exact thing happen over and over to people in the community. Betty Lou Hebert |
