Epitaphic Thoughts-In-Etch ~*Marge Tindal*~ The words fell out in poetry From a soul of deep torment Following a path that has no name Drawing no breath of relent~ Cavalcade of word-serenade Filling the page with rage Thoughts of a dying poet Who wished not to be saved~ Deep beneath the mounded swell Tormented poet dwells Ink-dried words of centuries gone by Live on to reveal his cry~ Epitaphic thoughts-in-etch Across a slated stone of mourn Never grieve the loss of one For another poet will be born~ *Just some thoughts after reading ‘The Tormented’ a biographical novel introduction to French poet, Paul Verlaine, born March 30, 1844 … died January 8, 1896 This novel was writtenby Rogier van Aerde and translated from the Dutch by Elfriede Zaeyen Originally published in the Dutch language under the title ‘De Arme Bruiloftsgast’ (The Poor Wedding Guest) Blessed to have found a 1960 First Edition of this work. ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] [This message has been edited by Marge Tindal (02-22-2003 03:27 PM).] |

Marge, I would like to tell you that the last strophe, Epitaphic thoughts-in-etch Across a slated stone of mourn Never grieve the loss of one For another poet will be born~ Summed up much of my feelings regarding the craft in a way--the legacy of words, follows us--and bolsters us all in a way. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece. --Matt [URL=http://www.livejournal.com/users/ministerjoe]It was twilight--the sun was sinking, the bottoms of the clouds were stretched midnight cotton in pa |
