Scattergorically speaking as a child, and still to this day my mother uses a colloquialism “We got there and scattered the kids about” I quite remember the day at age 4 when the folks arrived at a little country store stopped to pick up stuff for supper while visiting “famly in that neck of the woods” the women went about the shopping the men went about the talking and the kids scattered about this one scattered behind the country store with the grocer’s daughter to see her doll lost in daydreams and child playings realized time had passed went for the parents and they were gone without me they had scattered me to the winds supper time came and the kids were called from their scatterings one head short the smallest one where had she gone they began to look about she was scattered no where then realized – last time seen at the country store and back they went to retrieve me sometimes I feel that way still my thoughts scattered about can't gather them around me into a 'famly' of wisdom gone to the 4 winds stray seeds blowing everywhere can’t make sense of even the smallest one |

Quite an interesting write. I often have scattered thoughts as well...jumbled up feelings & memories. Chris "Hope" is the thing with feathers- |

I enjoyed this. Lovely way of putting it by your mother. Scattered them about. I left a grandaughter at the cheese factory once . It was a tour for her birthday, but I forgot to count kids when we got back to the car. She was quite put out with me. But we didn't go far before I noticed. Joyce |

thanks everyone... this was just a little trip down memory lane as i escaped from the afternoon drudgery of doing "meaningful" stuff with a computer. joyce - i love that you took your grand daughter on a tour for her b-day and she got left... that just makes me smile... yeah, i still tease my mom about her effort to lose me when i was 4, she just smiles with a twinkle in her eye... she loves to tell this story. but in telling this story to friends, it seems nearly every kid has gotten left behind at least once when growing up. |
