War My Grandpa in that dreadful war, Came home to think that he Had fought to bring a better world For his posterity. Then my own daddy, brave and strong, Set out to save the world From tyranny and servitude, With flag proudly unfurled. My brothers did their part as well When duty called again. So many generations tried, A safer world to win. And then my son was sent into A no-win situation. He lived through that to but return To an ungrateful nation. His son and daughter now are on This grim treadmill of war Why do our leaders think that this Will be the answer for The troubles that beset the world? It didn't work before. The price has been too steep to pay And now we're asked for more. You can fool some of the people Some of the time and some Can be fooled all of the time, but All of the time is dumb. So as Abe Lincoln was aware, Some of the people need To be told the whole of what's true And only then take heed. Please show us Mr. President, How to tell foe from friend; And promise if we follow you That this might be the end. Don't say I'm unpatriotic If I ask to know the worth Of the shellings and the bombings That have devastated Earth. I love my country just as much As other citizens; I just want to know it's worth it Before this war begins. Our freedom was long ago paid for With our ancestor's blood. Before we fight another war, Explain just why we should. By:Joyce 02/07/03 |
