The eagles of this valley Are a thrilling sight to see. We watch them soar and plummet, Wherever prey may be. The hunting must be ample, For so many cross the skies And often breezes carry The sound of their shrill cries. No other place we know of Has a population near The numbers of bald eagles That we find living here. The cliffs along the river, Are a natural nesting site. In spring we see young eaglets, When launching their first flight And often in the daytime, When our eyes will turn above, We can always see the eagles We've come to know and love. Betty Lou Hebert |

Betty; this is a magnificent poem! I am reminded of one of my favorite scriptures from Isaiah 40:31..."They that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles wings". Love, Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

ellie: Thank you for the accolade! Strangely enough, that very scripture was running through my mind as I watched the eagles. I have never been anywhere to see such a concentration of them over the distance we travelled. We have driven through the Umpquaa before but not at this time of year. It was a wonderful, uplifting experience! Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Joyce: Thank you! We have a few eagles here in the wetlands beyond our back yard. There are pools there that they like to fish. The ones in the poem though, I saw in Oregon. Never have seen so many in one place. We get an influx of them here in Coeur d'Alene in December every year, when the kokanee spawn and die in the lake, but not like the Umpquaa Valley.
