Welcome Home

To touch a star as it explodes,
And be consumed,....... Become,
A part of the cosmic fire of life.
Keeping your sanity is hard on flights,
Without wings or patterns,
On warm endless nights.

I became a star in flight.,
Swept along by a solar wind,
Across the vastness of the unfamiliar,
Until “welcome home” rang out,
To fill the void with reassurance,
And draw me close inside.

Warmth and softness rushed to greet me,
Splitting the darkness with understanding.
My soul lay open then, as yet unexplored,
As I was immersed in swells of ecstasy,
And a rhythm touched my senses,
Deeper than the music of my dreams.

Sherry m'friend...
You know this is one of my favourites of yours.
I have this saved and can't count the number of times I have read it over.
It was even more beautiful hearing you recite it from your heart
at our home last Christmas Eve.

Thank you everyone for expressing your feelings on this poem. I really shouldn't tell anyone what it was about when I wrote it fresh in 1986. .... but it wasn't like I lost anything... more like I became a part of things then. And thank you, Vicki, for pulling this one out of the basement for a second look... along with a few other treats.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and have a fantastic new years...
