Prom Night 1968 I was a 14 year old freckled face freshman, and this was the biggest day of my life. I was going to the prom. My date was a high school senior, and that was a very big deal. He was tall with blue eyes and a cute toothy grin. Of course I was madly in love, but had never been kissed. My dress was made of white chiffon with a huge satin bow, and my hair was teased into a puffy ball surrounding my head. A can of hairspray held it in place. I stared out the window until I saw his car, then made a mad dash for my bedroom, so I could sashay out, and make a grand entrance. He wore a white sport coat with a red carnation, and I thought I would never again see such a handsome thing. He had a pink flower for me, and made a clumsy attempt to pin it to my dress. Nearly pinning it to my breast he turned 3 shades of red and handed the flower to my mom. She laughed and whispered in my ear to have a good time, but to remember NOT to kiss on a first date. Of course I didn’t listen. The kiss was bliss, and I was forever in love. BloomingRose |

It was the only prom I ever attended. I think that's why it was such a special event for me. |

Very nice poem. Sounds like he was a little nervous. |

We are not so far apart in age, then...and this brought back some lovely memories...no matter what comes out in the wash, something good had to go in to begin with... This was lovely, Deb... |
