Memories Do you recall when we went shopping For your birthday heart's desire? We walked the streets and searched the stores Until my feet began to tire. You wanted Strawberry Shortcake, A new doll that was all the rage. The shelves were bare, she'd been bought out For other little girls your age. We stopped awhile and had some lunch, And pondered about what to do. There were so many pretty dolls That I offered to buy for you. You wanted none of these beauties, They didn't fit into your plan. Instead of Strawberry Shortcake, You picked out The Purple Pieman. You thought I was merely buying A birthday gift, wanting to please, While I was secretly hoping We were creating memories. This is enough to get a man misty eyed. Good work. In a few days I'll be seeing my own family again after four months... |

Joyce: I'm sure you did make a special memory on this shopping trip. Children remember more than we are immediately aware of. Betty Lou Hebert |

Thanks for the warm memories. I remember Strawberry Shortcake dolls, and when I worked in a bakery, they were all the rage for birthday cakes. Lucky little girl to have such a sweet grammie! Deb |
