Being that Thanksgiving is coming soon,I thought it appropriate to submit several offerings that I have written when I was homeless, and others that I have written which are either about that state,or in reference to other things that I have observed in regard to the state of the world. This work that I had written October 25,1994,is probably my most complex due to multi-layering of rhymes within. It takes a little time to catch them all ![]() Lastly,I just want to say that being thankful sometimes can be very difficult.Loss can plague you for the rest of your life.I can only say that truly seeing the things that you DO have, truly "seeing" the struggles and/or deficits of others and then actually "Doing" something out of compassion to aleviate that hardship, and searching for and/or striving nearer to GOD are the only ways I know of to "Truly" find the Spirit of Thanks. Walking through town wearing a coat that should be arrested for indecent exposure, I stumbled on the doubt that had lept from my hand like a frightened mouse Going down...swearing I would never go down again and I regain my composure I tumbled through the memory that had slept within my mind of my home,my house Talking with "me",daring myself to be tested by my recent disclosure, I mumbled 'bout the bout that had kept me from myself by label:"Louse" Knowing to be caring,to be a friend through pain and sharing,I am sure, I crumbled for my "sensory" seems inept, the fire in my Heart I must douse ![]() Geoffrey Sonnen [This message has been edited by Sunshine (11-08-2002 03:29 PM).] |

Geoff, I will come back again later and re-read this, as there is much going on, and I want to make sure I understand the layers in this. Yes, it is important to see that not everyone's USA reality is Turkey, stuffing and homemade pumpkin pie. PS, I set those turkeys free a long time ago, and I'm thankful for all the tasty substitutes for flesh that are available. |

StreetHeart~ There is creative poignancy in this write~ 'I stumbled on the doubt that had lept from my hand like a frightened mouse' Sometimes life affords us the opportunity to 'see' things at ground zero ... what we learn and share is priceless~ I am more than I was ... simply for having read this tender offering from you~ Thank you, poet~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Geoff~ This is a well-written piece and it touched me deeply. I'm so happy to hear that things are better for you now. You are so right, however, that there are so many more out there who are in difficult situations and who need the support and encouragement that we can give. Thank you so much for sharing this, Geoff. Hugs, ~Vicky "...until you have read the verse on his heart, |

Thank you,Vicky. You are right, there are too many others that need our care. There is something that we all can do,in one form or another.I don't think that many people realize the gift they can be giving that would supercede all other "Christmas presents", and the like.Sometimes someone just taking the time to pray, talk, listen, even offering a cup of coffee means so much. One does not need to empty their account, certainly. You can't help by depleting your resources to the point of making yourself impoverished, but there is so much more that can be done, and yes,it will take money too. In 1984,there were at least 2,000 FAMILIES,yes, families, that were homeless in NYC.When I heard that on the news,I was in a state of shock. When you take into account that that is not including the ones who are totally by themselves and aside from other cities, the amount of lonely, desparate people must be staggering. This should not be.And here we are in the wealthiest "Land of the free". If a man has not discovered something he is willing to die for,his life is not worth living. |
