The Winter Woods The winter woods are black and white. A haloed moon sends misty light To show a trail across the snow. I follow it so I will know What kind of animal might be Wandering in the night, like me. Then in the shadows by a stream, Are flashing, feral eyes, a-gleam And I quite suddenly decide, There's no place like the fireside! It doesn't take much time I find, To leave the lovely woods behind, Though somewhat difficult, I'll say, While walking backwards, all the way! Hi Joyce; You can tell what a coward I am! In the first place, I would never go walking in the woods at night, by myself, any season of the year! Betty Lou Hebert |

Wonderfully fun poem, Betty...I'm a homebody myself! Hugs, Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

ellie: This is strictly imagination as you would never catch me out in the woods after dark! Especially in the winter! Betty Lou Hebert |

thanks for the smile today... the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

BettyLou~ There I was by the stream Flashing you these eyes of green In an instant you were shaking with every backward step more quaking~ I wouldn't even hurt a fly much less a friend walking by ... Come back here in the dead of night ... I promise you .... I don't bite !! *Needless to say ... (but I'll do it anyhow) you inspired me ! *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |
