"It's for her safety,"
That's what "they" say.
"Against life's cruelties,"
"They" wouldn't have it any other way.
A fence so very high,
No evil through it may creep.
Keeping her safe from prying eyes,
So "they" in peace may sleep.
As "they" protect her from all harm,
She feels the ropes that bind her arms.
Those lips softly whisper,
Soothing words in her ear,
As those hands silence her screams,
That others might hear.
Those who stop to visit,
Watch her as she does play,
Never seeing the terror,
As "they" smile and drive away.
Content in "their" summation,
"Their" conscience free and clear.
"They" enjoy the time in relaxation,
As she quivers in her fear.
All her friends and relatives,
"They" continue "their" lives to live,
And in her insanity her mind is seared.
"She's greatly loved and better off."
That's what "they" say.
"She's really happy with her rocks."
It would be cruel to take her away,
As behind "them" her gate does lock.
Unbeknown to those outside,
Freakish nightmares do reign.
In her tattered mind they reside.
Covering it with darkest stain.
I wonder if "they" really know,
What's behind her awkward smile?
Her nightmares are her TV shows,
Composed in different styles.
Days and weeks, they run together.
Nary a clock to be found.
Locked in her little world forever,
Her mind screaming, yet,
She makes no sound.
Behind those blank, brown eyes,
Demons of emotion are hidden.
Unseen by any who dare to spy,
Running rampant and unbidden.
Playing any game they choose,
For however long they will.
There's no response to even loose,
And the echos of laughter are shrill.
Going through the motions of living,
Not caring if it continues or ends.
Taking from all who are giving.
No desire to try and comprehend.
None of it really matters,
For no outside harm may hurt her.
Kept "safe", as her mind does shatter,
As in the "SAFE ZONE" she is interred.

It does make one wonder about those who have our best interests at heart, doesn't it? Thank you for reading my work.
